At Lincoln High, we encourage exploration and immersion into the visual arts of your preference. We have strong, hands-on programs in drawing, design, photography, painting and pottery. And offer opportunities for Advanced Placement coursework in Drawing, 2D Design and 3D Design. Students get to discover their personal voice and technical skills in the visual arts.

| Drawing 2- Applications & Ideas (0151) | 10-11-12 | Emphasis on techniques and application of design and communication concepts to drawings. 20th century art is the focus. Expression and personal ideas are important. Prerequisite: Beginning Drawing (0150) |
| Drawing 3- Styles (0152) | 10-11-12 | Emphasis on understanding the reasons for the historical or personal style of famous artists and practicing various techniques to help with your own style of art. Students develop several works based on one theme and related ideas. Prerequisite: Drawing Applications (0151) |
| Advanced Placement Drawing Portfolio (0154) | 11-12 | This course focus on developing a strong portfolio in specific drawing media—pencil, ink, charcoal, etc. The portfolio will have examples showing the artist’s breadth, quality and concentration. Students will have the option of submitting their final portfolio to the College Boards AP review for potential college elective credit. | Advanced Placement 2D Design Portfolio (0145) | 11-12 | This course focuses on developing a strong portfolio with broader 2D media, such as collage, digital media and photography with examples showing the artist’s breadth, quality and concentration. Painting
| Painting1- Beginning (0160)(Biennial Odd Yr) | 10-11-12 | Teaches basic watercolor and acrylic painting techniques to use with original drawings while noting historical and modern examples. Color is the KEY! Prerequisite: Beginning Drawing or 2D or 3D Design |
| Painting 2- Applications/Ideas (0161)(Biennial Odd Yr) | 10-11-12 | Focus on composition and color theory by studying exceptional examples and applying the ideas to your own original acrylic and water color paintings. Students asked to paint in several specific techniques but about their own ideas. Prerequisite: Beginning Painting (0160) |
Digital Art
| Digital Art 1-Technology (0301)*Meets Technology or Fine Arts Credit. | 9-10-11-12 | This course will cover art and design as it relates to typography, photography, and print media and animation. This will include learning to use computer software such as Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, and Flash programs to generate original work. Students should be comfortable working on a computer. Photography
| Photography 1- Beginning Photo (0180) | 10-11-12 | Learn to expose, develop, and print black and white photograph as well as digital imagery. Use photography as a way to communicate and express yourself. Equipment and Supplies are furnished. 2D Design Recommended |
| Photography 2- Techniques (0181) | 11-12 | Improve technical skills and learn advanced techniques of making photography an art form. LHS students will be responsible for understanding the workings of a 35mm camera and will supply their own film and developing paper. Prerequisite: Beginning Photography (0181) |
| Photography 3- Styles (0182) | 11-12 | Expand their personal portfolio and photographic techniques. Learn how to develop a personal style of photography by studying great photographers’ work and exploring creative methods. Prerequisite: Photography Techniques (0182) |
Pottery
| Pottery 1- Beginning (0170) | 9-10-11-12 | Focuses on the basic techniques in pottery (coil, pinch, slab, and wheel thrown), while studying ancient and modern influences of this art form. Prerequisite: None |
| Pottery 2- Techniques (0171) | 10-11-12 | Continues the emphasis on pottery making skills with focus on glazing, kiln use, and studio operations. Prerequisite: Beginning Pottery (0170) |
| Pottery 3-Styles (0172) | 10-11-12 | Refines personal style and technical proficiency while studying cultural styles and current trends. Prerequisite: Pottery Techniques (0171) |
3D Design
| 3-D Design (0142) | 9-10-11-12 | Explores the 3-D art forms of pottery, jewelry, sculpture, and architecture. Provides a foundation in production techniques, as well as the concepts and history behind the work. This class is a good start for students interested in any design field. Prerequisite: None |
| Advanced Placement 3D Design Portfolio (0146) | 11-12 | Held in conjunction with the other 2 AP offerings, this course focuses on developing a strong portfolio in sculptural, pottery, jewelry or other 3D median with examples showing the artist’s breadth, quality and concentration. IB Visual Art
| IB Visual Art – High & Standard Level | 11-12 | Is a two-year immersion into studio work and visual research. Students develop art criticism and analysis skills while building confidence in their own technical production abilities. Students dive deeply into artwork’s cultural and historical contexts.
